Following the call from General Congregation 36 of the Society of Jesus, every Jesuit community and lay partners in ministry engaged in a prayerful discernment process about what the apostolic preferences for the Jesuits should be. These local discernments were gathered together in an intentional process in Rome for an Extended Council with Fr. General Arturo Sosa, S.J. The results were sent to Pope Francis who gave the whole Society of Jesus the Universal Apostolic Preferences to guide the work of the Society from 2019-2029.
These preferences guide our imagination and act as a way of being and becoming: they are intended to awaken our desires and unite us across the world in the service of faith and the promotion of justice.
