"So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together human beings must not divide"
Mark 10: 8-9
The Sacrament of Matrimony (Marriage) is a sacred celebration during which a couple stands before God and the community to profess lifelong fidelity and love. At St. Ignatius Parish, we are privileged to host many couples on this most special day, and we do all within our ability to ensure that the day is both joyful and appropriately solemn. The couple confer the Sacrament of Matrimony on each other. In doing so, the two become a source of grace, one for the other. The priest or deacon is the witness of the Church to this sacramental action. The living out of their commitment to each other for the whole of their lives is a source of renewed grace each day for them and a reminder to all of us of God’s presence and love.
This page is for those preparing for marriage. You will have the opportunity to take an active part in preparing together for the Sacrament as well as in planning the celebration of the wedding liturgy. If you are considering marriage in St. Ignatius Parish, your first contact will be Don Crean.
The pastoral staff of St. Ignatius Parish or another member of the Catholic clergy may officiate. The priest or deacon who officiates usually prepares the couple for marriage and assists the couple with completing all the necessary steps. Preparation for marriage begins at least six months before the wedding date.
The first step is to provide a Marriage Registration Form to Don Crean. See the attachment to the right.
Once your registration form is received, you will have a meeting with
Don Crean, who will guide you through the entire process, answer your questions, and provide a timeline for you to follow. The attached Wedding Booklet "Getting Married at St. Ignatius Parish" provides additional information.
You will be invited to attend a Wedding Seminar in the church several months before your wedding date, where you will meet with several of our parish staff to assist you with wedding day decisions such as your choice of liturgical options, decor, musicians, and music selections.
On the weekends, weddings may generally be scheduled on Friday evenings and on Saturdays. On Saturdays, the church can usually accommodate one wedding in the morning, one wedding in the afternoon and one in the evening. Smaller weddings may be celebrated anytime during the week when the church is not occupied.
As your wedding date approaches, a St. Ignatius Parish Wedding Coordinator will contact you, and a meeting will be arranged to discuss all the wedding day logistics for your celebration. The parish Wedding Coordinator will be present during both your rehearsal and wedding.
Don Crean schedules all weddings and rehearsals.
The church is reserved for a period of one hour for your rehearsal.
