The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a multi-month process for adults who wish to join the Catholic Church or become fully initiated, if they already are baptized Catholics. Participants examine their faith while learning about the Catholic tradition. Through weekly classes, the shared experience of weekly Mass, special liturgies and community service, candidates examine and deepen their faith lives.
RCIA begins in September and continues through May, but participants are welcome to start at all times. Sponsors are always needed to accompany candidates and catechumens. Contact information is at the bottom of this page.
Applicants to the RCIA process are asked to provided background information and to respond to a series of faith questions on an initial interview form (available in .pdf or online).
Each RCIA candidate walks in this journey of faith with a sponsor, a fully-initiated adult Catholic who participates in the RCIA activities with the candidate, especially the major events which take place in December, February and April. Serving as a sponsor is a wonderful way to refresh one’s knowledge of Catholic practices and traditions, while exploring anew one's relationship with God.
Sponsors are needed to accompany our candidates and catechumens as they journey to full initiation at the Easter Vigil. All fully initiated Catholics age 18 or older are eligible. If you have a desire to share your faith, or if you have benefitted from the example set by your sponsor or godparent, consider whether the Holy Spirit is calling you to do the same for another. Questions? Contact Mary Romo at the email listed below, or attend one of our workshops (information on the next workshop can be found in the "Events" section of our website).
