Star Community Home (SF Catholic Charities) gives families a safe place to live while developing a plan to secure stability and housing. Families typically arrive at Star Community Home in crisis: homeless, fearful, hungry, lonely, desperate, and penniless. The home immediately offers a safe place to live, providing nutritious meals and beginning to build the skills necessary for a self-sufficient future. Families exit Star with housing, a stable source of income, and the skills they need to establish permanent exits from homelessness. Single-parent family housing stabilization success rate: 97%.
Volunteers can help by:
- spending time with children while their mothers attend classes or start part-time jobs;
- providing needed personal supplies and clothing for women and children;
- bringing toys and games and spending time with children to help them play and learn.
