Dear Sisters and Brothers –
Any discussion of finances at St. Ignatius Parish must start with gratitude for your generosity. So many of you have made our parish one of the most important works you support, and I am truly grateful for that. Many have responded generously to my appeals over the years, most increasing your annual gift when asked, so that we could continue to build and expand upon what we already do, as well as stretch ourselves into new ministries and programs to meet needs as they get expressed by you and your fellow parishioners. Thank you.
You are also very generous when it comes to the second collections we are asked by the Archdiocese to take up, you give from your hearts when we seek to help the victims of earthquakes and fires, to build water wells in the Dominican Republic, to provide blankets for the poor in Tijuana, and more. You teach me about generosity.
I’m writing today to inform you about a change we will be making in the way we participate in the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal (AAA). As you know, the AAA is how each of us contributes to and supports the work of the Church throughout the Archdiocese. Beginning next month, we are returning to the way we used to collect those donations, which is to run the AAA campaign separately from our own parish fundraising (this is the way that all other parishes in the Archdiocese conduct this drive.) I believe this will bring greater clarity and focus to our own mission as we more consciously share in the financial support of critical ministries and services managed outside our parish. In the coming weeks, we will be highlighting how these benefit our parish, our parishioners, and the entire San Francisco Catholic Community. Our 2018 assessment is $230,240 and next month we will begin our drive to meet that goal.
On another note, this year’s Dead of Winter event is an evening of Pasta and Bingo. The hoedown has been great fun the past several years, but there was a desire to mix it up a bit and do something different (it was suggested that Bingo will make us an authentically Catholic parish!) There is more information on page of the bulletin. Please mark your calendar for February 3, after the 5:00 pm Mass. I look forward to seeing you there. N-27!
Oremus pro invicem.
