Position

St Ignatius Parish is seeking an hourly Vocal Section Leader to support choral endeavors, guide volunteer vocalists, and lead the singing assembly during weekend liturgies. The Vocal Section Leader may also be called upon to serve as a cantor or soloist for special services, (e.g. Holy Week and Christmas), weddings and funerals. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished vocalist, with musical sensitivity, breadth, expression and flexibility. Experience across various genres and periods of liturgical music, and leading liturgy as a cantor or soloist is desirable. The Vocal Section Leader is also able to work with a variety of personalities and skill-levels, helping to foster a warm, professional and collaborative rehearsal/performance environment where everyone is welcome.

Primary Responsibilities

• Arrive with time to organize music and be settled by the beginning of all rehearsals
• Occasionally assist in setting up chairs, stands and other equipment necessary for rehearsals or liturgy
• Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with the Director of Liturgy &Music and/or other staff members with regard to scheduling and availability
• Come to the first rehearsal prepared and familiar with the form/road-map of all music
• Possess a basic understanding of the form of Roman Catholic Worship
• Occasionally sing as a solo-cantor for funerals or weddings
• Thoughtfully and respectfully collaborate with the Director of Liturgy & Music when receiving direction or instruction
• Return music in a clean and tidy order

Education & Experience

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music
• 2+ years of experience in church-based music ministry

Position is hourly, exempt, and is compensated in accord with the parish’s established hourly rates for various types of accompanying.
