Archdiocesan Annual Appeal

A Word from Father Greg, S.J.

“The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal reminds us that we are part of the Body of Christ, that we belong to others whom we do not see, and they belong to us. St. Paul reminds us of that in his first letter to the Corinthians: ‘By one Spirit we are all baptized into one Body’ (1 Cor. 12:13). Through the AAA, we are able to express our solidarity with those sisters and brothers whose needs are often greater than our own.”

The theme of this year’s appeal is “For the needy will never be forgotten, nor will the hope of the afflicted ever fade”. Psalm 9:19.

What is the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal?

The AAA is the annual fundraising initiative in which the Archdiocese appeals to each parish to support the Church’s mission and the work of the Archdiocese on behalf of all those within its borders. The AAA reminds us that our parish does not operate in isolation, but is part of something greater, something that unites all Catholics in San Francisco in our call to do God’s work on Earth.

Where are funds from the AAA directed?

The funds raised during the AAA will help support the nearly half a million Catholics within the Archdiocese of San Francisco. They enable the Archdiocese to provide resources to our local community and to the greater Church.

What is the assessment for St. Ignatius Parish?

Each parish’s goal is determined using the same four factors. St. Ignatius’s assessed portion for 2021 is $171,082. This amount is determined by calculating a portion (20%) of the following revenue sources:

What happens if St. Ignatius Parish does not raise the required funds?

If the parish is not able to raise sufficient funds to cover our assessed portion, the funds will have to come out of the parish’s operating budget. Timely payment is required as part of our, and all parishes’ communion with the Church.

What if our parish exceeds the assessment goal?

Every dollar raised above $171,082 will be returned to the parish.

How much should I contribute?

Everyone has different financial resources and capacities to give. We hope that contributions will be based on the idea of ‘Equal Sacrifices’, not ‘Equal Gifts’. The participation of all those who call St. Ignatius Parish home is what we strive for. Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated and will be properly acknowledged by the Archdiocese.

How do I make my Contribution?

*Please note, 100% of your gift will go directly towards our parish’s2021 assessment.

Are any funds from the AAA used for legal fees or settlements involving clergy?

According to the Archdiocese of San Francisco, AAA funds will never be used for any legal proceedings.

Second Collections

Second Collections are outlined by the U.S. Conference of Bishops to support the Church’s efforts around social justice, evangelization, and education. These collections occur throughout each year and are an impactful way to support specific priorities such as the Holy Land, the Priest’s Retirement Fund, and the Campaign for Human Development.

Annual Stewardship Appeal – Fall 2021

The annual appeal at St. Ignatius provides a crucial foundation for the parish to stand upon for the year. As many may have noticed, due to the extraordinary nature of the past year and the impacts of Covid-19, we did not conduct our regular appeal this year. We are currently focusing all of our attention on the re-opening of the church and we ask that you consider a gift to the Forward in Faith appeal as your annual gift for 2020.

We will return to our Stewardship Appeal this fall and continue the tradition of generosity and sacrifice that makes St. Ignatius Parish unique.

The Preservation and Promise Campaign for St. Ignatius Parish

Our community is in the early stages of developing and recruiting support for a large-scale restoration and ministry expansion project that will impact our church building and parish community for generations to come.

We must wisely steward our iconic building by making critical repairs while providing new resources to make our social ministries more impactful and effective.

The priorities of this campaign will make a difference for everyone in our community, and we want to have personal, thoughtful conversations with our parish families about their support for this effort. Please know that a staff member or volunteer will reach out to you directly with more information about our campaign in the months ahead.

A Final Word on Giving

Nearly 170 years of generosity from parishioners like you have allowed St. Ignatius to weather many crises and emerge from each with strengthened resolve and commitment to our faith. We are humbled by the sacrifices that our congregation continues to make to sustain our parish as a beacon for the Jesuit community of the Bay Area. Each and every gift is received with gratitude and is utilized responsibly to provide the spaces, support, and services for our parishioners. We aim to be completely candid about the allocation of funds and strive for financial transparency.
