Mission

The mission of the Worship Commission is to contribute to the spiritual development of our parish by helping to insure that the services at St. Ignatius Church are meaningful, appropriate, worshipful, and inspiring within the guidelines provided by Rome, by the Bishop of San Francisco, by the Jesuit Province, and by the Pastor.

Responsibilities

1. Advisory Committee

The principal responsibility of the Worship Commission is to act as an Advisory Committee on the liturgical life of the parish. In this role, the Commission becomes the voice of the parish to the staff. It is the Commission's responsibility to gather input and feedback from parishioners and then advise, help, and work with parish staff, particularly the Director of Liturgy and the Director of Music about music, liturgical matters, and other matters as needed.

  • The Worship Commission serves as an advisory board to the Director of Liturgy and the Director of Music. The Commission helps to evaluate the parish's liturgical life, offering member feedback and the feedback received from other parishioners.
  • The Commission advises, helps, and works with, parish staff in the planning of major parish liturgical celebrations and in evaluation weekly and seasonal celebrations.

2. Working Committee

The second responsibility of the Worship Commission is to act as a Working Committee, receiving reports from committees and organizing activities deemed necessary to fulfill its mission.

  • The Commission gathers input and feedback from parishioners on the liturgical offerings
  • The Commission receives reports from other parish committees and its own subcommittees, including such potential groups as: Hospitality and Community-Building; Music Advisory; General Instruction on the Roman Missal; and Communications.
  • The Commission may initiate and organize activities appropriate to its mission.
  • The Commission should communicate appropriate and timely feedback to all parishioners.

Structure

The Worship Commission is accountable to the pastor and to the parish council. At least one member of the parish council should serve on the Commission.

The Worship Commission and the Director of Liturgy nominate and select new members with the approval of the pastor. Every effort should be made to ensure that the Commission members represent the diversity of the parish community.

Commitment

Preparation for and regular attendance of meetings is expected. Members are asked to serve for three-year terms. Terms may be extended at the request of the Director of Liturgy or of the Commission members.
