Music

Guidelines
The St. Ignatius Church music staff is delighted that you have chosen St. Ignatius for your wedding. The music staff is dedicated to providing liturgical music for your wedding which is beautiful, appropriate and spiritually uplifting. Toward that end, there are several guidelines that need to be set forth regarding music for weddings at Saint Ignatius Church.
The Saint Ignatius Church Organist is the designated organist for all weddings at Saint Ignatius Church.
The fee for the Organist is included.
Due to the age and historic nature of the organ in Saint Ignatius Church, NO visiting organists are allowed to play for weddings.
The Saint Ignatius Church cantors are the designated vocalists for all weddings in Saint Ignatius Church.
If there is to be vocal music in a wedding, a St. Ignatius Church cantor is to be engaged to lead congregational participation in the singing of the Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, Eucharistic Acclamations, Lamb of God, etc. Visiting vocalists (e.g. friends/relatives of the bride and groom) are permitted to add one solo (of sacred nature only) during Gift Preparation OR during Communion. Please note that a rehearsal between the guest soloist and the St. Ignatius organist must be scheduled. This rehearsal will take place during the hour directly before your wedding. Due to the obvious time constraints, guest vocalists must be fully prepared. This time is used to set tempos and microphone levels and not as a time to teach music. There is an additional $75.00 fee for this extra rehearsal. The St. Ignatius Church cantor can also provide solos for your ceremony.
Only music of a liturgical or sacred nature is allowed within the liturgy at Saint Ignatius Church.
Visiting instrumentalists (Trumpet, Cello, Harp, Bagpipes, String quartets, etc. excluding organists) are hired to play for weddings in St. Ignatius Church by the St. Ignatius Church Music Director.
Vocal ensembles (Contemporary Ensemble, 11:am Choir, Quartets, Octets, etc.) are available to sing at weddings by contacting the St. Ignatius Church Music Director.

Organ Selections for Prelude, Gift Preparation and/or Communion
The organ at Saint Ignatius Church is a grand and wonderful instrument. Its potential cannot be realized by any means other than hearing the instrument "live". The organist hosts a "play-through" of music for weddings several times during the calendar year. Dates for upcoming play-throughs may be obtained by contacting Margaret Walden at 422-6520.

The organist will provide music beginning approximately 20 minutes prior to the wedding. If the wedding is celebrated without vocal music, and if the wedding is a Mass, then the organist will play during Gift Preparation and Communion as well. Please bear in mind that the pieces chosen should reflect the nature of the liturgical action at Gift Preparation and Communion and, as such, should not be of a secular nature.
