Subject: A Resource for Your Parish

Dear Jesuit Parishes,

Do you have parishioners who are ready for the movements of the Spiritual Exercises? Are they looking for ways to grow in freedom? To find more intimacy with God in the midst of their very busy lives?

As part of our ministry to our faculty and staff here at Creighton University, we have developed resources that we would like to make available to our partners in Jesuit parish ministry.

As you know, the internet and the world wide web have become a powerful way of offering resources for the people we serve, at no cost. We have discovered that parishes around the world have found our online ministries to be helpful and as we are excited about this new way of sharing the Ignatian tradition, we wanted to call it to your attention.

Consider offering your parishioners the Online Retreat in Daily Life, a 34-week experience of the Spiritual Exercises. This powerful prayer experience is designed for busy people trying to find God in their everyday lives, and at no cost. Each week for 34 weeks, retreatants will find a weekly guide, helps for prayer, a weekly column by Larry Gillick, S.J. and reflection-provoking photographs from Don Doll, S.J., an internationally-known photographer.

The retreat can begin at any time, but it fits with the Liturgical Year beginning the week of September 17.

This retreat has been used by thousands of people around the world for individual prayer, parish faith sharing groups and RCIA. It is also used as a resource for spiritual directors who are directing individuals or groups in the 19th Annotation. The retreat is user-friendly and self-guided and includes simple directions for getting started. Its web-based format makes it available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with direct links to scripture readings, photos and a powerful sharing page for those who feel moved to write about their experiences.

The website is at: http://www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/online.html

The Creighton University Online Ministries website also includes:

  • Daily Reflections, a personal meditation on each dayís scripture readings
  • Preparing for Sunday: finding God in our everyday lives on the way to Sunday
  • Other resources

If you would like to promote this spiritual resource in your parish, you might list it in your parish bulletin or through any other program that might seem to apply in your parish. Attached to this e-mail are a suggested ad layout and a photo from the retreat your bulletin editor may wish to use.

This retreat, available on the World Wide Web is a ministry of Creighton Universityís Collaborative Ministry Office. Please let us know if we can answer any questions or help in any way.
